Grounded 2 has been a huge hit for Xbox, managing to keep a consistently high player base while still being in Early Access. Despite that, the game already has plenty of fun features that players everywhere are enjoying. The survival sim genre can feel bloated and repetitive at times, but it looks like this sequel has perfected the formula.
One unique detail fans are enjoying is the cockroaches. Aside from being formidable enemies, these insects can also eat away at your loot if you aren’t quick enough. This is a solid way to add tension and make sure that players loot their enemies after killing them, which is pretty inspired.
Fans on the Grounded subreddit are enjoying this feature, as it forces them to be more aware of their surroundings. It also means they have to consider if the loot dropped from an enemy is worth keeping or losing. Since players have to build weapons, armor, and other items, this is a pretty great feature.
Interestingly, the game’s corpses also despawn quickly, adding some more tension to the looting. This is, admittedly, less interesting than the cockroaches because it’s just the bodies disappearing, but it’s still something to consider. Even if it’s not that innovative, adding mechanics that increase the tension in-game is beneficial to these survival sims.
More good things are coming to Grounded 2, as the survival sim has a roadmap that ensures this game will continue to get updates. The first game was also a solid success, getting a Switch port that’s well-liked, so seeing that transfer to its successor should lead to good things for Xbox and Obsidian.
