As the light was about to leave our eyes, our mouths out of air to breathe, our ears losing hearing, a miracle happened: Hollow Knight: Silksong is getting a “Special Announcement” in a few days. While the “Special Announcement” could be about anything, this will most likely be a release date announcement, because anything else would lead to soul-crushing disappointment.
The Silksong Special Announcement will take place on Team Cherry’s YouTube channel on August 21 at 7:30 AM PT. If that wasn’t interesting enough, games journalist Jason Schreier also has a story coming about why this sequel took seven years to make. Considering the reveal of that big report, it looks like we really are getting that release date soon.
It’s hard to believe that Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced back in 2019, but that's why this wait has felt like an eternity. Many fans still have fond memories of the original Hollow Knight, as it was one of the best-looking Metroidvania games ever released. With slick controls, cool lore, and memorable boss fights, there’s a reason why fans have been waiting impatiently for this sequel.
Now that Jason Schreier has hinted at something interesting, it looks like there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to this sequel’s development. Most fans assumed it was just game development woes, as Team Cherry is still an independent studio at the end of the day. We all assumed that it’s not easy to make a game look and play so good, but there might be more to it than that.
Regardless of what may have happened behind the scenes, we have hope that Hollow Knight: Silksong will live up to the hype. The sequel to one of this generation’s best Metroidvania games has to at least be competent, and at most, blow our brains out. It looks like we’ll find out in a few days, where we will determine if this is a miracle or not.
