It looks like Monster Hunter Wilds has a new Elder Dragon lined up for a future update, and it could potentially be the iconic Great Sea Dragon, Ceadeus. But what could this mean?
The speculation began during the Festival of Accord: Flamefete event, where players noticed the Diva singing a familiar tune. That tune was none other than Ceadeus’ theme.
For context, the singing Diva has been part of Monster Hunter for years. She’s essentially the franchise’s fantastical songstress, serenading hunters after long and grueling quests. She first appeared in Monster Hunter Frontier G3. In Monster Hunter Wilds, she’s a completely new character but retains the same title. Only this time, she can grant buffs to hunters when they listen to her songs.

During the Flamefete festival, players could hear her singing Ceadeus’ theme, which stirred up a mix of nostalgia and a bit of fear as it might be a hint at the Great Sea Dragon’s return.
Ceadeus is one of the more elusive Elder Dragons in the Monster Hunter mythos. It’s a massive sea creature, resembling a whale with a face similar to a Dunkleosteus. Its most distinct features include a large beard of fur and two enormous horns. It’s essentially blind, but that never stopped a world-ending Elder Dragon before. It is one of the rare docile Elder Dragons, but when provoked, it could spell doom for the world.
In its original appearance, the Ceadeus hunt took place mostly underwater. Hunters had to swim, dodge falling debris, and survive underwater quakes. Its element is water, and it can unleash a powerful water beam capable of carting hunters. It also inflicts Dragonblight, which is common among Elder Dragons.

Now that Monster Hunter Wilds features underwater combat with Lagiacrus, there’s reason to believe more water-based Elder Dragons might be on the way. Ceadeus, with its iconic underwater encounters, seems like the most likely candidate to return first.
But Ceadeus might not be the only Elder Dragon being teased. Some fans believe the Diva in Wilds has a mysterious aura that feels too deliberate. A few lore enthusiasts even suggest she could be a reincarnation of White Fatalis, citing connections to a white-robed figure in the game’s deeper lore.
As always, these remain speculations. But it’s starting to feel like Capcom is setting the stage for upcoming content, or maybe even hinting at the direction for the much-anticipated Monster Hunter Wilds Master Rank expansion. Who knows? We might be heading toward an expansion filled with Elder Dragons, and if that’s the case, we’re definitely in for a treat.
