Zoe Rayne: Proof that Palworld's New Tower Boss Companion Feature Needs More Work

Palworld has certainly been given a breath of new life, with the Tides of Terraria update bringing in much-needed content to help the game regain popularity and players. There's no doubt that there are now many more things to enjoy, and one of those is the ability to make Zoe Rayne, one of the tower bosses, an official companion.

Pocketpair kept its promise and finally allowed people to partner up with the Rayne Syndicate leader and her almighty Grizzbolt. However, it isn't exactly all that it's cracked up to be, as getting Zoe and her Pal doesn't really offer much for everything that needs to be done to get them.

One would think that after defeating the powerful tower boss, it would be as simple as talking to her and then having her join your team. Unfortunately, it requires more than just that, as there is an entire questline involved in her recruitment.

Undergoing the process requires players to take on multiple tasks, all of which feel entirely unnecessary, especially since they must go out of their way and travel to different parts of Palworld's map. One of them even involves capturing a Grizzbolt, a Pal that Zoe will provide as soon as she joins your team, making the goal of the recruitment feel pointless.

This would have been fine if the reward at the end was worth it, but even that is an area where Pocketpair dropped the ball. Aside from seeing Zoe riding on top of it, the Grizzbolt obtained after completing the quest is no different than one you can capture in the wild. The developer may have tried to offset that disappointment by allowing people to capture and fight together with Zoe without her Pal. But again, she offers little to nothing other than a few unique animations.

Being able to capture one of Palworld's bosses was something that many of the game's fans have wanted for a while, and it's a shame that the feature comes up lacking. Pocketpair can still change it with a future update, and if the developer does, then one of the best improvements to make is on the tower companion once acquired.

Zoe and her Grizzbolt, as they are now, offer nothing special, but that can be changed. If they were to have something like unique attacks or be more powerful than any regular Pal, then that would make the hassle of going through the questline more than worth it. If not that, then Pocketpair could at least make the quest to get the tower boss shorter, making it much less of a hassle and allowing players to enjoy the reward much sooner.

The point is to make people look forward to partnering up with Palworld's human bosses, but trying to do so with Zoe Rayne is a clear indicator that the feature still needs a lot of work. Pocketpair can still make changes to improve it in a future update, and it would be to the developer's benefit to do so, given that it has the potential to be a game-changer and draw more people into playing the game.
